Bell Witch
The Bell Witch haunting involved violent poltergeist phenomenon and roused the curiosity of many, including General Andrew Jackson.   "Have you checked the children?" - When a Stranger Calls   It is the story of John Bell and his family who lived in Adams, Tennessee in 1817. Made famous by the recent film, "An American Haunting," one version of the legend is portrayed there, replete with special effects and its own special Hollywood twist. However, there other versions of the event as the story was retold over and over through the ensuing generations and each version is strikingly different than the others. When I saw the Hollywood version, I must say I was not impressed. I loved the entire story and was held in great suspense throughout. However, when the message of the film became evidence, I was greatly disappointed in thos filmmakers, as I felt there were many other ways they could have taken the story. Also, I'm a big fan of Donald Sutherland and took offense. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil it for any of you who haven't seen the film yet.Below is a four-part documentary-type video series that depicts the story and the legends surrounding it.
