Scottish Coal Miner Ghost

(Glasgow, Scotland)
I remember very clearly the one and only time I saw a ghost.
I was staying overnight at my grandmothers house and fell asleep on her couch in the living room. During the night or early hours of the morning, I got woke up by a very high pitched screaming or screetching noise that I remember really chilled my bones and somehow gave me the feeling of being the only one who could hear it. However as strangely as it seems I fell straight back asleep again.
A couple of hours later I woke again and my eyes were drawn across the dark room to something next to the fireplace that looked like a pair of mens slippers. I panicked when I realised that there were no men living in my grandmothers house and as my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I started to see legs on the slippers and then torso and before long an old, grubby looking, bald man was sitting next to the left hand side of the fireplace as if sitting on a chair that wasn't there. He wasn't looking at me but looking straight ahead with a blank expression and dark eyes. I pulled the covers over my head and remember thinking 'please go away, please go away' and then the next thing I remember was waking up the next morning.
I can't obviously explain what I saw but I would happily take a lie detector test to prove what I saw.
The village I live in is in the suburbs of Glasgow and has a long history of coal mining. I am not sure if there is any connection here.
