About six years ago, I was walking home from a party at a friends house. It was about 3:30 am and I cut through a park on my way home. At the back of the park there is a cemetery that is beside a river. Now, I've walked by this cemetery hundreds of times, at all times of day but, on this day something strange happened.
I was approaching the cemetery and I saw a family of four slowly entering the cemetery via a small gate on the roadside. There was a husband, wife, boy, about 6 and a little girl about 8. I thought it was a weird time to be visiting a graveyard but, I thought that's their
business. I crossed the street and when I passed by them the little girl looked at me. I gave her a smile and continued on my way. About a half a block away I heard this very loud scream that said, "Help!"
I was spooked but ran back to see if the family needed some help. When I
arrived at the cemetery, there was no family, no people and the gate that I saw open was closed and padlocked. Suffice it to say it was a strange experience.
I've been by there many times since and have never seen the ghost family again but, when I walk by with my son he always
gets scared and wants to walk on the other side of the road.
Th family had a lot of time to go away as you walked half a block, the shout was probably someone else, but still nice story :D

I believe that there is a force that does stop certain energies from discharging from this universe, so a soul is either kept to roam, or put into another being or type of living thing. What I was primarily going to say was:
Basically when you see anything (specially in the dark) that is in the shape of a head or shoulders (or both) you immediately see in the corner of your eye, or even in front of you, what appears to be a person's head & shoulders. This is your brain transmitting to your eyes
that there 'appears' to be a human being in front of you.
However, no matter how intelligent you are, this will happen.

Good work, I have to say . The story is great, with clever vocabulary.
I think that family died somewhat in the 1900's. This also might be someone playing a trick. The one who shouted for help
might have immediately run away, or hid somewhere. And someone must have again locked the gate when you turned back. No one knows, there might be the chance of this happening in seconds.
I'm not saying that I'm absolutely
sure someone played a trick, but when you said you didn't see the family again, that made me think like that. Now you might ask 'what about the family I saw, if someone was playing a trick, I would have recognized whoever it was'.
But it could have been some outside person, or
your friend's friends.
